Best LED Shop Lighting
Lighting, a subject often overlooked in the set up of a shop, particularly LED Lights. In today’s article we discuss the Best LED shop lights for a workshop, it is amazing how much of a difference it makes being able to see well in a work shop. With the technology available today with LED lights it is possible to make a shop so bright you could get a tan for the same power consumption as a couple decent incandescent or even worse, halogen lights. After quite a bit of research, in our opinion these lights made by Barrina are the best bang for your buck LED shop lights, they come in many different configurations to suit almost any need.
A few years ago we bought a 10 pack of 8’ LED lights, 72W 9000LM, 5000K White for the shop, this 10 pack of lights draws less power than the 2 big traditional lights that used to be in there and the shop is so bright it is amazing. We are so glad we did this and should have done it way sooner. Another thing we have found is that vibration from machinery does not bother these lights, where it was hard on the filament in an incandescent bulb, we had not initially considered this until we got to thinking as to how these lights don’t seem to need replacing like the older style ones.
The ability to read mics and other measuring tools as well as see surface finishes is vastly improved, you will be surprised at how much a $200 investment in your shops lighting changes things. The other nice thing is the lights come in long strips rather than illumination from one location, this is super helpful as you always have light from the correct angle and aren’t blocked or having shadows.
In the shop we have 3 of them clicked end for end with the adaptors running a straight 24’ span and also have 1 above each of the 3 machines in the shop and a couple above the various work spaces allowing plenty of illumination everywhere we need it. Not to mention, they have been there a few years now and no bulb changes, that is great. The only thing you may find depending on where they are situated is they are indeed bright, sometimes too bright if you put it in you line of sight, put it up out of the way.
The lights are super easy to install and they weigh almost nothing, anybody could install these. the chart below shows the different attachment and connection methods used to install them. We have them wired to a junction box that is powered by the light switch that used to run the old style lights, very convenient this way. We would definitely recommend trying them, you won’t be disappointed.
